In April 2026, a dental-floss brand signed on for 401 high-speed rail stations across China. XiaoLu Mama — you find it in county supermarkets and township pharmacies, priced at a few yuan. It partnered with Zhaoxun Media: 2,666 placements, 95% in third- and fourth-tier cities. A cheap product. Why spend on rail?
The answer is not reach. It is trust. Shoppers in county towns trust the platform before they trust the brand. A rail station is a "great national project" — it carries state-backed credibility by default. A brand that appears inside a station is assumed solid and reliable. XiaoLu Mama used exactly that to break the "afraid of fakes" wall in county minds. One lightbox pulled it from "cheap white-label" to "national brand."
1. What a station sells best is trust
Rail advertising gets sold as impressions, but what it really sells is endorsement. Airports are premium but low-frequency and narrow. Malls are noisy and mixed-intent. Subways are tired commuters staring at their phones. A rail station is enclosed, high-trust, full-coverage — every step from entry to boarding has a media touchpoint waiting. The most valuable spots are the lightboxes and brand pillars beside the gates. Passengers look up and there it is.
That endorsement matters most for county brands. County consumption is upgrading: the Ministry of Culture and Tourism measured May Day 2026 county-destination bookings up 128% year-on-year, faster than provincial capitals; lower-tier hotel bookings up 34%. People will pay a premium for a "national brand" — once they trust it first.
2. Money is already moving down
CTR data: 2024 rail-ad revenue in third- and fourth-tier cities rose 21.7% year-on-year, versus 8.3% in tier-one cities. iResearch puts the county rail-ad ROI median at 1:4.2, against 1:2.8 for traditional out-of-home. Advertisers are not stupid; money flows where the trend is.
3. These three Guangxi stations sit right on the down-market opening
Yulin North, Xingye South and Hengzhou on the Nan-Yu line each map to a different down-market logic. Yulin North is the gateway to southeast Guangxi, over 80% business travelers — good for regional authority. Hengzhou guards the jasmine origin; a jasmine-tea ad seen at the producing station carries a different trust than anywhere else. Xingye South is a pure county stop, reachable from 20,000 yuan a month — small businesses can afford it.
Yulin's base is deep: spice trade over 35 billion RMB a year, Yuchai brand value past 110 billion, Fumian denim 3,000-plus firms, plus Beiliu ceramics and Rongxian pomelo as geographic indicators. These firms going outward lack, above all, outside trust. A lightbox at Yulin North for a month beats a hundred WeChat posts.
| Station | Its role | Best for | Entry |
| Yulin North | Regional authority — appear here = tier-one in Guangxi | Industrial leaders, regional brands | Package: 97 lightboxes + 152㎡ LED |
| Hengzhou | Origin authenticity — appear here = source of jasmine | Jasmine tea, GI products | Concourse lightbox |
| Xingye South | County value pick — 20k/month reachable | Micro-firms, local services | From 20k/month |
First use lightboxes to plant "we are solid" — that is the trust base. Then use screens to rotate products, contact details and promotions so viewers can act. Xingye's whole-package entry is low; Yulin North's package (won under HG2026-FW112) has 97 lightboxes, 152㎡ LED and 14 screens. Bundling the three stations usually saves 20–30% versus buying separately.
A concrete case: a Hengzhou jasmine-tea factory used to rely on distributors. Out-of-town buyers always doubted whether it was authentic. Last year it put a lightbox in Hengzhou's concourse with the line "Home of Chinese Jasmine." Buyers stepping off the train saw it first. The owner said the confidence in negotiations changed — "my brand is in the station, so who worries I'll run away?"
4. Enter now for the pre-opening price
The Nan-Yu section has carried 2.75 million passengers in just over a year. Yulin North now sees 5,000–6,000 a day; after the Yucen section opens to Guangdong at year-end, the estimate is 15,000–20,000. Right now it is a stub station, priced on a few-thousand daily flow. When the crowd actually arrives, the price will not stay put.
Rail has flattened the distance between county towns and the outside world. What a county brand wants is not one lightbox — it is a chance to be looked at straight by outsiders. Lock the spot while the price is still low. Once Yucen opens, the good positions are already taken by someone else.
